The International Conference on Mortars and Thermal Rendering Systems / VI Simpósio de Argamassas e Soluções Térmicas de Revestimento will take place in Funchal (Meliá Mare Hotel, Madeira Island), Portugal, from 13 to 15 January 2027.

This event is being organized by Itecons / University of Coimbra in collaboration with the International Community for Drymix Mortars (drymix.info).

The goal of this event is to gather experts in the mortars and thermal renders fields to present novel solutions and applications and to discuss the main challenges facing this sector. The event will feature expert guest speakers and presentations by students, researchers, and other professionals.

We invite you to submit an abstract and present your research or innovative technologies / products. Please visit the Authors Area to learn how to submit your abstract.

Abstract Submission
Context

Despite the emergence of new and innovative wall coating solutions, mortars continue to be widely used in construction since they play a key role in ensuring proper adhesion in façades.

However, demands on the construction sector - in terms of its physical and hygrothermal properties, compatibility, or sustainability - have led to the development of more robust compositions, making the selection of suitable materials more challenging and complex.

Research in furthering the incorporation of waste materials from various sources into mortars, as a partial or even total replacement of the binder or aggregate, continues to be of great interest due to the potential for reducing landfill disposal, for decreasing the consumption of non-renewable resources, and for improving performance. At the same time, improving the energy performance of buildings—particularly through thermal insulation solutions—remains a major priority.

Ongoing research to further knowledge in this sector is of great importance, namely since the performance of real onsite applications often differs from the behaviour studied in laboratorial settings. However, such studies are only of use if properly disseminated and applied within the manufacturing sector.

In this context, we are delighted to bring the sixth edition of our Symposium to a broader audience by organizing the first International Conference on Mortars and Thermal Rendering Systems.
